At his
yearly checkup in Galveston, the head of pediatrics exclaimed,
"This is a

I asked if I could get their statement on videotape for an article we're sending to the "It's a Miracle" TV program.

As usual, doctors came "out of the woodwork" at his annual visit to see this "miracle boy." Some just stood at the door and stared at this one-time patient that they had heard so much about while therapists ran him through a battery of tests to grade his cognitive and motor skills. They seemed surprised that he tested like a 4-5 yr. old on some tests.
(Quite a far cry from the brain-damaged vegetable that the original neonatal doctors said he would be, eh? Am I ever glad that we did not "pull the plug" and "let him die" like they recommended!)
Then, Dr. Robinson, who, from her professional concern has also developed a real fondness for Hollis, said she had some bad news for us.
She said, "Unfortunately, you will have to email us from now on ... Hollis is too healthy for us ... he will never need to come back to the hospital for checkups again!"
The bad news was she wouldn't get to see him as often!
That kind of bad news is GOOD NEWS!

breastfeed. By the third day, however, he began running a fever, sleeping a lot and
generally was disinterested in nursing. Sensing something was wrong, the doctors
became suspicious and began looking for a bacterial or viral infection. At one week
old Hollis went to the intensive care unit. Shortly after, they thought he had a
mysterious viral infection, then encephalitis or meningitis, then settled on a diagnosis
of

It hardly seems possible that it has been almost 4 years since we received our little gift--Hollis--from the Lord with great expectations---only to be told that it was impossible for him to live.
There are not words to describe the anguish and horror of such a situation to family and friends, especially parents that have to go through such a time, holding on to any thread of hope. In this case, there was none.
But the Lord
filled us with confidence that all things are possible to our miracle-working God, and
that Hollis would be a bonafide trophy of answered prayer through God's grace. The
Scripture that the Lord made so real to us, (we believed He would fulfill) is
2 Cor.
1:11:
" . . .as you help us by
your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor
granted us in answer to the prayers of many" (2 Cor. 1:11)
And that is exactly what happened!! Here
he is--almost 4 years later--perfectly normal!
Any brain damage was totally healed along with his liver and other problems. Two MRI's showed no damage. Praise God! The therapists who visited Hollis at home the first year said he didn't need them any more, for he not only caught up to normal motor development, but had advanced beyond normal skills for his age!
Needless to say, we have quite a celebration at LifeWay Church and the training center here at StraightWay every October 16. We want to thank all of those who have remembered Hollis in prayer. We invite all those who have read this amazing testimony of God's grace to be conscious of the seemingly small, daily miracles that God continually does in all our lives. And to always be thankful for LIFE, to always be PRO-LIFE, for it is precious beyond words!
